This my last sculpture I made for my sculpture class. I bought 10ft poles and had them bent to give off a sense of emotional value that I was looking for. My attempt was to replicate telephone poles and I tried to the best of my abilty to do that.
This piece is symbolic to my relationship with my father. My relationship with my father is estranged, I don't call him and when he does I purposely miss them. To give you a brief summary of the events leading to our estranged relationship, it started when I had finished my first year of high school. My mother broke up with my father and around this time he had found a woman in New Orleans who was successful. Since he was no longer with my mother and he was tired of trying to make ends meat and maintain his "New York Lifestyle", so he moved up to New Orleans with her. Naturally he wanted to keep in contact with me, and we did sort of but being that I'm not a socialite in any sense of the word, we didn't talk much. When we did talk he would always talk down to me and I didn't like it much. One day as we were talking we decided to exchange emails. He sent a email about something involving basketball, and I decided to send him a email involving the fact that he should start supporting me finically because my mother has been struggling, towards the end I wrote "don't call me or anything just do your part". Obvous he didn't like this much so he of course called and naturally I missed them. When I would speak to him he would say some things that were very violent and just mean. I missed and ignored his calls, until recently on father's day I decided to call him to say "Happy Father's Day" and to reconcile our problems and live in peace. The conversation started to go well until he brought the email situation. Thats when things got worse and more violent than I had in mind. He called me things that has left me in a lot of pain and at this point I'm just trying to find peace, even in the little things.
So this piece dispalys two opposing telephone poles. The one to the left is pulling the other to the right through a Knot. Sorry I should of took a picture of the knot.
